Legal Writing Instructor Marilyn F. Preston, a faculty member since 1995, is a graduate of Emory University (BA) and the University of California, Hastings (JD).

Prior to joining the faculty, Ms. Preston taught legal research & writing at Wayne State University Law School from 1989-1995. She also has served as judicial clerk to Chief Justice G. Mennen Williams of the Michigan Supreme Court and in-house counsel in the legal department of the Bank of America in San Francisco, California .

Ms. Preston has been active in a number of professional and civic organizations including the Michigan Appellate Assigned Counsel System. She is a member of the Michigan and California Bar Associations, the American Bar Association and the Legal Writing Institute. Ms. Preston did a presentation at the Legal Writing Institute Conference in Chicago, Ill. in the summer of 1994 on Designing Writing Assignments-A How-To Guide.

In addition, Ms. Preston directs the law segment of the University of Toledo Governor's Institute for Gifted and Talented High School Students, a one week workshop held annually in July.
