Application for Certificate
REQUIREMENTS FOR A CERTIFICATE IN HOMELAND SECURITY LAW
To be eligible for a Certificate in Homeland Security Law, a student must satisfy all the requirements listed below.
A. A student must complete all of the following Homeland Security Law Core Courses:
1. |
a) Homeland Security Law or
b) Criminal Justice and Homeland Security*
*Advanced Criminal Procedure may satisfy this requirement. Contact the Faculty Coordinator. |
2. |
Immigration Law |
3. |
Criminal Procedure: Investigations |
4. |
International Law |
B. A student must complete at least five credits of the following Homeland Security Law Related Courses:
1. |
Criminal Procedure: Adjudications |
2. |
Money Laundering |
3. |
Terrorism and International Law |
4. |
Cyberlaw |
5. |
Civil and Political Rights |
6. |
Military Law |
7. |
Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Law |
8. |
Admiralty Law |
9. |
International Human Rights |
10. |
Administrative Law |
11. |
Federal Courts & Federal Rights |
12. |
College of Law externship placement dealing directly with Homeland Security Law, subject to the advanced joint approval of the Director of the Externship Program and the Faculty Coordinator, for a maximum of three credits |
13. |
Any other Homeland Security Law course added to the curriculum on an experimental or permanent basis, if approved by the Dean for inclusion as a Related Course |
C. A student must complete one of the following Research and Writing Components:
1. |
Advanced Topics/Seminar in Homeland Security Law, subject to the advanced approval of the paper topic/project by the Faculty Coordinator, provided that an Advanced Topics/Seminar applied towards satisfaction of the Research and Writing Component in Homeland Security Law may not be applied towards satisfaction of the Homeland Security Law Related Course requirement |
2. |
Independent Research (with paper) in Homeland Security Law, subject to the advanced approval of the paper topic/project by the Faculty Coordinator |
3. |
Law Review paper related to Homeland Security Law, if the Faculty Coordinator determines that the amount and quality of student’s participation has been sufficient to be counted as completion of a Certificate Research and Writing Component |
D. A student must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average in all Homeland Security Law Core and Related Courses completed, except that a course graded only on a pass/fail basis shall not be included in the grade point average computation.
