Hear from Recent Public Interest Law Summer Fellows:

Billy Harmon
Advocates for Basic Legal Equality
Migrant Farmworker Project Intern

“In the few short weeks that I have worked at ABLE in the Migrant Farmworker Project I have been involved in several cases representing hardworking migrants and other Spanish speaking populations in need of legal assistance. In addition, I have participated in multiple outreach sessions in which the Migrant Farmworker Group and I have visited many dilapidated migrant camps in attempt to improve the conditions this group must endure. The work here has been rewarding and enlightening.”

Allma Spencer
Legal Aid of Western Ohio Intern

“In the summer of 2010, I was awarded the Public Interest Fellowship which helped finance a position with Legal Aid of Western Ohio.  As a recipient of that fellowship I was able to spend a summer really pursuing my public service passion. I spent the summer under the direct supervision of a Legal Aid attorney who allowed me to try my hand at drafting legal documents, interviewing clients, and assisting in multiple pro se clinics. The Public Interest Fellowship provided a wonderful opportunity for me to give back to the community by allowing me to serve those in true need of legal services while expanding my professional knowledge base. Legal Aid is a fantastic organization to work for as a law student and I would recommend it to any individual passionate about public service!”

Jennifer Beaver
Toledo Bar Association
Pro Bono Legal Services Program Intern

“During my Fellowship, I was under the direct supervision of the Director of the Pro Bono Program, Patricia Intagliata. With her guidance, I created and initiated a program to assist qualifying married persons with children in filing for divorce on a pro se basis. I worked closely with the judges and staff of the Lucas County Domestic Relations Court to tailor a program that specifically met the needs of the Court and Lucas County Residents…I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity given to me by the Fellowship.  I gained valuable experience in the field of domestic relations and I was also able to network with those in the legal community. It was truly an invaluable part of my legal education and career.”
