Toledo
Intellectual Property Law Association
(TIPLA):
The Toledo Intellectual
Property Law Association (TIPLA) is pleased to sponsor a program
titled “Role of the U.S. Patent Examiner; Patent
Examiner Training Academy” on Friday, May 15,
2009. The program will be held at the University of Toledo, College of
Law. The
program will include a presentation by Ms. Deborah J. Reynolds,
Patent Training Program Administrator at the United States Patent
and Trademark Office in Alexandria, Virginia. Topics such as an
overview of the role played by the U.S. Patent Examiner, how to
become a U.S. Patent Examiner, and rules and regulations taught at
the Patent Examiner Training Academy will be discussed. Specific
modules used to train new Patent Examiners will be reviewed during
the presentation.
Continuing legal
education (CLE) of 3.0 credit hours has been applied for with the
Supreme Court of Ohio. Attorney admission is $40.00 for TIPLA
members, and $60.00 for non-members. Admission to the program is
free for law and science/engineering students and professionals
interested in a career with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Any persons interested
in attending the program are encouraged to complete and return the
attached registration form as indicated, or e-mail the TIPLA
officers at ToledoIPLA@gmail.com for more
information.
ABA Law
Student Divisions Offers Health Insurance Continuation for up to one
year after graduation:
Numerous graduating
third year law students who are either currently unemployed or on
deferred employment have inquired about the availability of health
insurance from the ABA Law Student Division. For many of these law
student graduates, their current health insurance will expire this
summer and without employer health insurance, they will be uninsured
for an indefinite period of time. Because health insurance coverage
is important, we encourage you to pass along this message to your
third year graduating law students.
The ABA Law Student
Division health insurance plan with UnitedHealthcare Student
Resources (UHCSR) offers a health
insurance coverage
extension for up to one year from the student’s
graduation date
PROVIDED the student is currently carrying this
plan AND there is no
break (lapse) in coverage between the date of graduation and the
first day of this one-year extension.
Graduating law students
who are not currently carrying this health insurance coverage with
the ABA Law Student Division UHCSR plan may still qualify for the
graduate extension by purchasing the last quarter of the health
plan before
graduating. Enrollment in the plan prior to graduation is an
ABSOLUTE requirement of the carrier. Students may view the health
plan benefits at https://www.uhcsr.com/ABA
For
more information regarding this benefit and a pro-rated premium
amount that will provide coverage for 12 months from the date of
graduation, students may call UHCSR at
1-800-505-5450.
Two
simple steps –
1. This program is
offered to ABA Law Student Division members only. If not currently
enrolled in the ABA – students may join by calling
800.285.2221 or visiting http://www.abanet.org/join/
2. If not currently
enrolled in UnitedHealthcare
Student Resources – students should sign up now while
still a student and before
graduation for the last quarter (90 days) of the current
plan, in order to be eligible for the graduate extension.
Eligibility requires being a law student – not a graduate; being
enrolled in an ABA-approved law school and being a member of the
ABA.
Students enrolling (or already enrolled) must request the graduation
extension which will expire one year from the student’s graduation
date. Please keep in mind that there can be no break in coverage
from the original plan and the extension. UHCSR will calculate a
pro-rated premium for that graduation extension coverage. For a copy
of the plan benefits, please visit https://www.uhcsr.com/ABA.
Thank
you.
The
ABA
Law Student Division
International
Summer Opportunity in Hungary:
"Summer University" program in Szeged, Hungary: We would like to have some
US law students,
who could deliver presentations about some interesting "hot topics"
of US law. These topics can
be chosen together with the students. They are not forced to present
anything they are not interested in it. Besides this, we could
provide a place for the students at the institute, where they can do
some research as well.
We can offer the
students a fully equipped apartment (3 separate rooms are in it,
with all the necessary equipment, including internet, washing
machine, kitchen etc.). The weekly price of the apartment
is
80$/student/week. It is
only 10 minutes by tram from the
Institute.
We are open to host 2-3
students for 4-5 weeks (depending on their interests as well). The
exact date can be also flexible, but the first half of July is
recommended as a starting date.
Application
Process: I would like to ask all
the applicants to send their CV and a motivation letter at the
latest of April 30. The selection will take place within one week
after the deadline. Their motivation letter should cover their field
of interests, and the topics they are interested in to speak about
for the participants of the summer program. Two or three students
(as a group) are greatly welcomed to send a "joint working plan".
Materials should be sent to the attention of Peter Mezei at: mezei@juris.u-szeged.hu

Summer
Volunteer Legal Internship with the Center for Civil Justice in
Saginaw,

hands-on experience working with clients. Start and end dates are
flexible. The position can be either part-time or full-time.
Requirements: Open to
1st and 2nd year law students. Experience
with, or at least an interest in, immigration law is preferred, but
not required. The ideal candidate is fluent in Spanish. Fluency in
other languages is desirable as well, but none is required.
Applying for the
position: Please have interested students send me their cover
letters and resumes. Email is preferred. Deadline is May
9.
