Tort Law Journal of Ohio- Staff Writers Needed:

http://www.west.thomson.com/

www.tortlawjournal.com

First and second year students with an interest in tort law and writing are needed for the Tort Law Journal of Ohio.  TLJO, published by West, is Ohio’s leading tort law review.  It is designed to help civil attorneys keep current on tort law, offering new perspectives on routine matters as well as analysis on the latest news in emerging areas of tort litigation in Ohio.

One of the central features of TLJO is its case reviews which are prepared by 13 highly motivated and extremely capable law students from across the state.  New students are needed to become Staff Writers, replacing those who will soon graduate.

Each student is assigned one appellate court district to follow.  Every two months, each student prepares brief (one paragraph) case summaries on 3-4 cases of note.  These summaries are then published in the Journal.

Time involvement is fairly minimal.  On average, it’s less than a half-hour per week.  Complimentary Westlaw access can be made available to those students who do not already have student accounts.

There is no compensation for doing this. Even the Regional Editors and Contributing Editors are involved on a volunteer basis.  This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about an area of law, gain exposure and credibility as a published author and bolster a resume or C.V.  Those who excel doing this may be invited back as a Contributing Editor upon graduation.

Involvement as a Staff Writer also makes a student eligible to contribute, if he or she wants, to the companion blog, TortLawJournal.com.

To apply, each student will be required to submit a resume, a writing sample and to complete a sample case summary based upon a case that will be provided to the student.  For more information, or to apply, please contact the Editor in Chief, Christopher Ernst either by email (cernst@bdblaw.com) or phone (216-736-4216).

Application period closes February 29, 2008.  Decisions will be made within one week thereafter.  First submission will be due April 15, 2008.
