Resume Collect Participation Procedures:

Employers that are not able to visit UT Law’s campus request that the Career Services Office collect resumes from eligible students. The application materials collected from students are then forwarded in one package to the employer.

Employers establish candidate criteria and indicate whether it is preferred (indicating there may be flexibility in the candidates an employer is willing to consider) or required (meaning only persons with those qualifications can apply). These preferences are noted on the resume collect schedule above.

If you meet the stated criteria, and would like to submit your application materials for the Resume Collect program, you will need to do the following:

  1. Have a sample resume and cover letter reviewed by Law Career Services.
  2. Gather the requested materials for EACH employer you wish to apply to, and submit those materials along with a Resume Collect Cover Sheet to the Law Career Services Office by the date noted.

Pro Bono Program Update:

Attention May 2008 Grads— If you are interested in the opportunity to earn a Pro Bono Commendation before you graduate, please stop in to the Law Career Services Office and talk with Jessica. 

We will award a Pro Bono Commendation to all May/August 2008 grads that have performed 40 hours of volunteer legal work throughout their law school years.  (8 hours of Clinic/Externship work can be used toward the 40 hours total required). 

The Pro Bono Commendation will be listed in the graduation booklet this year, and there will be a special reception honoring all past and present Pro Bono Commendation recipients on March 20, 2008.

For all other students, the requirement will remain 30 hours per semester.

The NALP Apartment Exchange is at www.nalpexchange.org.  This is a terrific resource for students to find out-of-town summer housing or to sublet their places.

Toledo Bar Association Minority Law Student Clerkship Program: Deadline 02/01/08

The TBA will sponsor a Minority Clerkship Program in which first year minority law school students will have the opportunity to work as a summer associate in a local law firm, corporate legal department, court, or public sector institution.  The program is open to law students at the University of Toledo College of Law and law students who are Toledo, OH residents but attend law school outside of the area. 

Applications forms are available in the Law Career Services Office and must be completed and returned to the Toledo Bar Association by Friday, Feb. 1st

Bergstrom Child Welfare Law Summer Fellowship Deadline: Deadline 02/01/08

The Bergstrom Child Welfare Law Summer Fellowship is committed to inspiring the best and brightest law students to pursue careers in child welfare law. Through the fellowship, students gain experience and insight into the field and provide much needed services to various child welfare offices specializing in representing children, parents, and social service agencies. After attending a three-day training session at the end of May at the University of Michigan Law School, Fellows spend at least ten weeks at their placements.  Application Deadline is Friday, Feb. 1, 2008.

DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM:

 

The Office of General Counsel seeks 1Ls and 2Ls for 3 paid Summer 2008 clerkships.  2Ls and 3Ls are eligible for 2 paid clerkships in the Fall and Spring semesters.  Salary is $20 per hour.  Some flexibility is available concerning schedule, but clerkships are generally for 12 weeks during the semesters, and 10 weeks in Summer. Law clerks will conduct legal research and writing in the areas of administrative law, election law, and regulatory law; assist with legal drafting and editing; and provide general administrative support.

 

The U.S. Elections Assistance Commission is an independent, bipartisan commission created by the Help America Vote Act of 2002.  Among its responsibilities are operating the voting system certification program, and providing best practices and resources to election officials throughout the nation.  It also administers a national clearinghouse of information about election administration and maintains the national mail voter registration form.

 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

 

No specifics are stated.  However, strong research and writing skills and an interest in elections law, are a plus.

 

APPLICATION PROCESS:

 

By Fri., Mar. 21, 2008 for Summer 2008, submit cover letter, resume, and short writing sample.  Interviews will be conducted in person (preferred) for those who can arrange to be in the DC area (at their own expense) or telephonically.  Hiring decisions will occur approximately 3 weeks after the last interview has been conducted.

DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM:

 

The Office seeks 1Ls and 2Ls for approximately 100 unpaid Summer 2008 internships.  Internships are full-time, but part-time may be considered.  The Summer program runs from May 20 to August 15.  Placements are available in the following offices, some of which deal with legal issues (for more detailed description of each office, see website):  Advance; Cabinet Liaison;  White House Counsel; Communications; Correspondence; Domestic Policy Council; Faith-Based and Community Initiatives; Fellows; Intergovernmental Affairs; Legislative Affairs; First Lady’s Office; National Economic Council; Office of Vice President;  Political Affairs; Political Liaison; Photo Office; Presidential Personnel; Scheduling; Speechwriting; Strategic Initiatives;  Travel Office; USA Freedom Corps; White House Management; White House Personnel; Visitors Office.  Beyond experiencing day-to-day operations of the White House, interns will enjoy a speaker series, tours, participation in community service projects, and various White House events.

 

 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

 

The ideal candidate will exhibit strong academic credentials, an interested in public service, solid written and verbal communication skills, a history of community involvement, strong character and leadership skills. 

U.S. citizenship is required.  Background checks and random drug tests are conducted.
