On-Campus Interview Participation Procedures:

Employers establish candidate criteria and indicate whether it is preferred (indicating there may be flexibility in the candidates an employer is willing to consider) or required (meaning only persons with those qualifications can apply). These preferences are noted on the interview schedule above.

If you meet the stated criteria, and would like to apply for an on-campus interview, you will need to do the following:

  1. Have a sample resume and cover letter reviewed by Law Career Services.
  2. Gather the requested materials for EACH employer you wish to apply to, and submit those materials along with an On-Campus Interview Cover Sheet (available in the LCS Office) to the Law Career Services Office by Monday, January 14th, 2008 at 3:00 p.m.
  3. Participate in a mock interview with Law Career Services prior to any scheduled on campus interview.

This Week’s “Hot Job”:

The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland Summer Associate Program (1223 West Sixth Street Cleveland, OH 44113)

Position Description: The Summer Associate Program The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland is looking for 10 dedicated, hard-working, and public-interest minded students for its summer associate program. Summer associates are expected to work unpaid for at least 11 weeks and may work up to 13 weeks. Summer associates work in different areas of the law, but all receive the opportunity to learn how to be excellent poverty lawyers. Generally, summer associates will: interview clients, draft court pleadings, research relevant legal issues, attend and assist with court hearings and trials and analyze evidence.  All summer associates will participate in weekly trainings on substantive areas of poverty law, observe oral arguments in the 8th District Court of Appeals, and meet afterward with the judges involved, and participate in brown bag lunches with current Legal Aid lawyers and community members including judges, politicians, and leaders of local non-profit agencies.

Requirements: Summer associate applicants should have completed their first year of law school by the time they commence work in the summer of 2008. We give special consideration to students with a demonstrated commitment to serving disadvantaged people and communities. If your resume does not reflect a commitment to public service due to personal financial constraints, please provide an explanation in your cover letter.  Law students who speak Spanish are strongly encouraged to apply.

How To Apply: Please submit a cover letter, resume, list of three references and a writing sample. *Remember to include in your cover letter your " top three project/unit preferences", whether you are willing to volunteer, will be receiving credit, are work-study eligible or are applying for a public interest summer grant/fellowship.
