On Tuesday, September 15, Lucas County
Prosecutor Julia Bates and Dean Mandross, Chief of the Criminal
Division in the Lucas County Prosecutor Office, will present a
program on "Representing the People: A Career as a
Prosecutor." This will be an excellent opportunity to
hear about prosecution and network with two individuals who
have contributed substantially over the years to the training and
employment of our law students. All students are invited
to attend.

NOTICE:
Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE) Registration
Deadline:
The
purpose of the NCBE Multistate Professional Responsibility
Examination (MPRE) is to measure the examinee's knowledge and
understanding of established standards related to a lawyer's
professional conduct. Applicants take the MPRE as partial
fulfillment of the requirements for application for admission to
practice law in jurisdictions that require the MPRE. The examination
is administered three times per year at established test centers
across the country. Students generally sit for the MPRE after
completing a course in ethics.
Fees
For applications
received on or before the regular receipt deadline, the fee for the
MPRE is $60. For those who apply after
the regular receipt deadline but before the late application receipt
deadline, the fee is $120. Please note that the registration fee is
non-refundable.
A project
through the Ohio Community Service Council, 20
AmeriCorps attorneys located throughout ABLE and LAWO’s
32-county service area will provide direct legal
representation to clients, as well as offer legal
information, education, and outreach to help low-income
individuals maintain or acquire safe and affordable
housing.
These attorneys will also work with
community organizations to develop projects designed to
expand the availability of affordable housing.
Positions will be out of offices located in
Toledo, Dayton, Sandusky, and Fremont.
This
is a collaborative project between the partner law firms
of Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE) and
Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO).
Qualifications - Attorney candidates should
be admitted to the Ohio Bar or be eligible for temporary
certification in Ohio. - Recent law
graduates should be prepared to take an and pass the
next Ohio Bar exam.
Candidates should also: -
Be highly motivated and committed to the principle of
equal justice. - Have excellent communication skills
and enjoy working with people. - Have excellent
research and writing skills. - Take initiative and
be a leader. - Be creative and willing to accept
responsibility for challenging projects. - Have good
organizational skills and ability to manage multiple
tasks. - Ability to speak Spanish is
helpful.
Benefits (compensation is set by Federal
statute) - for each year of service, attorneys will
receive: - A living allowance up to $22,800 per year.
- Health insurance and eligibility for child care
assistance. - A $4,725 education award from
AmeriCorps. - Loan forbearance and interest accrual
payment for government student loans. - Actual
moving expense and Bar admission assistance up to
$3,500. - Participation in ABLE and LAWO’s
comprehensive substantive and skills training program.

Toledo law firm
seeks 2L (or 3L evening) for research and litigation
support. Excellent research and writing ability is
essential. (Applicants should be available to start work
immediately and work 10- 20 hours a week during the
school year and up to 40 hours a week in the summer.
While not all work needs to be performed at the office,
it is necessary to schedule time there
weekly.
Pay is $20/hr

The position
averages approximately 10-12 hours per week. The
position is available starting in
mid-November.
The main duties include legal
research and writing and filing with the local courts
and government agencies. The firm practices mainly in
the areas of personal injury, medical malpractice,
workers' compensation, social security disability and
probate, as well as misdeamnor criminal defense, driving
under the influence, and general traffic
citations.

of Brady, Coyle and Schmidt seeks a 2L, 3L or 4L to
serve as a court messenger. Preferred dates and times of
work are m/w/fr from 12:30 - 5:00 pm (there is some
flexibility with days and times). Rate of pay is
$10/hr plus mileage and parking pass and parking key is
provided. Position open until filled. Apply
