Wednesday, September 9th:  Panel Presentation on Call-Bank Interviews (All 2L/3L/4L Students Welcome)

 

A panel of 3L students will provide advice and information about call-back interviews (the second interview in the large firm fall recruitment process).  If you are a 2L involved in fall recruitment or a 3L interviewing for post-graduate positions, please make plans to attend this program.

Wednesday, September 9th: Chris Parker, Ethical Issues for Externs and New Lawyers

 

The Public Service Externship Program invites local practitioners to come and speak to externship students on areas such as: career paths, ethical concerns, current issues, etc. Law students who are not enrolled in the externship program can attend the talks as well. Seating is limited.

Friday, September 11th: Opportunity for Students to Have Lunch with Prominent Alumni on September 11

 

Attention 1Ls, 2Ls, 3Ls and 4Ls:  The Dean's National Advisory Board is comprised of prominent Toledo Law alumni from across the country. The Board will be meeting here this week, and the alumni always enjoy the opportunity to talk with students when they are in town. We have alumni leaders coming from Las Vegas, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and various Ohio cities.  This is your opportunity to ask questions about getting started in their areas of practice, moving to another location after law school, developing an expertise, and concerns related to current economic conditions. Lunch details are below.

Monday, September 14th: Public Interest Volunteer Opportunities Information Session, co-sponsored by PILA

Representatives from Advocates for Basic Legal Equality (ABLE), Legal Aid of Western Ohio (LAWO), the Toledo Bar Association Pro Bono Legal Services Program, the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Public Defender’s Office will speak about volunteer opportunities with their organizations.  This is a wonderful way to learn about pro bono opportunities so that you can earn a Pro Bono Commendation.

Tuesday, September 15th: The Life of a Prosecutor Program

 

Networking reception beginning at 4:00.  At 5:00, Julia Bates and Dean Mandross will present a program titled “Representing the People”. Equal Justice Works Career Fair and Conference: Student Registration closes Friday, Sept. 11

 

Student Sign Ups Open Monday, August 31!

Students interested in attending the 2009 Equal Justice Works Conference and Career Fair may sign up for a Symplicity account and submit their cover letter and resume beginning Monday, August 31. 

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the registration instructions and tips.

Signing up for a Symplicity account is free. Most student registrations to attend the Conference and Career Fair will be free. To sign up:

  1. Create a Symplicity account at https://ejw-csm.symplicity.com/students/. If your school uses Symplicity, you will still need to create a new account.
  2. Confirm your email address by clicking on the link that is emailed to you.
  3. Update your profile information under "Profile"
  4. Upload a cover letter, résumé and transcript, if applicable. Please note that you may not upload writing samples into the system. Bring these to the interview with you.
  5. Register to attend the Career Fair under "Events." You must register in order to be admitted into the Conference and Career Fair. A Symplicity account does not constitute as registering.
  6. Submit applications to employers through Symplicity

DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM:

 

The Ohio Attorney General seeks 1 3L, JLC or Recent Graduate for the 1-year Simon Karas Fellowship.  Approximately 30 applications are received each year.  Salary is $65,000 and includes the same benefits given to other State of Ohio employees.  The Fellowship runs from September 2010 through August 2011.

 

The Karas Fellow works with the State Solicitor, Appeals Section, and other top lawyers on the State’s major appellate cases.  These cases often stand at the crossroads of law and public policy, involving constitutional questions or hotly debated public policy concerns. 

 

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Strong writing and analytic skills are preferred.

 

APPLICATION PROCESS:

 

Submit cover letter, resume, law school transcript, and 2 letters of recommendation by Fri., Oct. 16, 2009.  Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so apply early.  In-person interviews are conducted in October and November; telephonic interviews are not permitted.  The hiring decision is made in December.
