Wednesday at noon in the Auditorium (and 5:15 in Room 1013),
Dean Ray and Assistant Dean Heather Karns will be presenting a
program titled What
All Upper Level Students Need To Know About The National Job
Market. They will share
information on first jobs and ultimate careers, satisfactions and
tradeoffs, and, most importantly, how the job market
works. They will have salary information, timing information
(nationally over a third of law students find their jobs
sometime after graduation), strategies for getting a job (nationally
only about 20 percent of law graduates obtain their first job
through on campus interview programs), and how students can use
resources available at the College of Law to improve both their
knowledge of the profession and their marketability. Topics such as
billable hours will be discussed. Pizza will be
served.
Saturday,
Sept 13th Law alumni share their
stories: getting through law school, the business of finding a job-
and what they think about practicing law. Join us and ask questions,
network and enjoy some pizza! Noon- law school, signs will be
posted. RSVP to lcs@utoledo.edu

Job Fair at the College of Law on Oct. 3rd:
Plans Underway
The Student Bar
Association and Office of Professional Development have partnered to
offer a Fall Job Fair on Friday, October 3rd in
conjunction with Homecoming Weekend Activities.
All 2L/3L/4L students
are invited to participate.
We have a
full day of events planned. There will be a catered networking
lunch, table talk time, and individual interviews.
All job
fair application materials will run through Symplicity (https://law-toledo-csm.symplicity.com/students/)
. All 2L/3L/4L students should have a custom Symplicity
username and password at this time. If you do not, please
e-mail Donna Amstutz (donna.amstutz@utoledo.edu).
Job
Fair registration will open within the next week…more details to
follow.
To
ensure you are eligible to participate in the job fair, please log
onto Symplicity and complete your student profile. (if you have not
already done so) You will not be able to see Job Fair
information until your student profile (including class year) is
complete.

3L/4L Applicants to the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF)
Program:
If
you’re interested in working for any branch of the federal
government, the College of Law strongly encourages you to
apply for the Presidential Management Fellows
Program.
Program
Information:
The PMF
Program is designed to attract to the Federal service outstanding
men and women from a variety of academic disciplines and career
paths who have a clear interest in, and commitment to, excellence in
the leadership and management of public policies and programs.
This is an excellent opportunity to enter Federal service at a
highly competitive starting salary.
This
two-year paid program includes 160 hours of formal classroom
training, challenging assignments, potential for accelerated
promotions, developmental assignments, and networking opportunities.
Fellows are hired by Federal Agencies and engage in solving domestic
and/or international issues in areas such as public administration,
technology, science, criminal justice, health, and financial
management, to name a few. Upon successful completion of the
program, participants generally
receive a permanent job offer from at least one of the departments
they have worked for.
For the
PMF Class of 2009, students who complete a graduate degree
(master’s, law, or doctoral level degree) during the 2008-2009
academic year (September 1, 2008 - August 31, 2009) from a
qualifying college or university are eligible for
consideration.

Application
Information:
The online application
will be open from Oct. 1
to Oct. 15,
2008. To apply, go to USAJOBS
(www.USAJOBS.gov), click
"Apply Online" at bottom of vacancy announcement, create an account,
and build an online resume or link to an existing USAJOBS
resume. The PMF application consists of the USAJOBS resume,
online Qualifications Questionnaire, and supporting documents for
veterans' preference (if applicable). Next, print and complete
Nomination Form (OPM Form 1300) and submit it
to your school's Nomination Official in accordance with the school’s
nomination process. School Nominating Officials will review
applications based on a competitive process and fax nominations to
fax number listed on the Nomination Form by 11:59pm EST on Fri.,
Oct. 31, 2008.

Bono Commendation Program Update:

bono hours over the summer, please turn in your commendation forms

opportunities at Legal Aid of Western Ohio (Toledo) in housing,
consumer, public benefits, elder law, tax and general
