Welcome Back! Ice Cream Social, Thursday, August 27 from 4 to 6. Come celebrate the beginning of a new year with Cold Stone Ice Cream and all the fixings. We’ll meet on the patio (good weather) or in the lobby next to the Career Services Office (bad weather).

Parking Permits. The Division of Student Affairs would like to advise all students of important information about parking permits. Details.

 

Aug 4

Notice to students paying tuition or receiving scholarships at out of state rates: Consider applying for Ohio Residency. Students who pay an out-of-state surcharge or who have a scholarship that pays an out-of-state surcharge may find it to their advantage to apply for Ohio Residency.  If you have a scholarship, it helps us make scholarship funds available to more students. The form is available from the Treasurer's Office. The forms must be turned in by August 13 or September 21st.

Attention Students: A Mock Interview Opportunity! It is essential to be at your best when the opportunity to interview arises! If you are looking for a way to satisfy a mock interview requirement or if you continue to seek suggestions for improving your interviewing skills, make plans to join us for our annual Alumni Mock Interview Program scheduled for Thursday, August 13 from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the College of Law. Alumni working in firms, businesses and the public sector join us to conduct mock interviews and share their insights with you! Spaces are limited and the spots fill up quickly! Send your rsvp to lcs@utoledo.edu and class year.

2009-10 graduates who expressed an interest in Inns of Court should contact Dean Pizzimenti. Hello to 3L and 4L students graduating December 2009 or May 2010 who expressed an interest in joining the Inns of Court. Due to technical difficulties, I do not have information regarding those who expressed an interest in joining the Inns this fall. Please send me an email indicating your continued interest. Any other graduating student who is interested is welcome to contact me for more information.

Class Schedule for Week of November 9, 2009: There will be no classes on Veterans’ Day, Wednesday, November 11. Wednesday classes will meet on Thursday, November 12. In other words, that Thursday is now a Wednesday.

We at the College of Law regretfully announce that Heather Elliott, Assistant Director of Financial Aid, has left her position at the College. She joins her twin girls and husband in Columbus, Ohio, where he recently accepted a position. We are grateful to Heather for her service, and we wish her family much happiness as they begin their new adventure.

Beth Solo, who previously served as financial aid officer for the College, has graciously agreed to help students through this transition period.

ASPIRE Program Offers Free LexisNexis Research Access for 2009 Graduates Pursuing Public Interest Work

The LexisNexis Associates Serving Public Interest Research (ASPIRE) Program provides complimentary LexisNexis access to 2009 graduates pursuing public interest work. Sign up now at www.lexisnexis.com/aspire to get free access until September 2010.

Access Group wants to make you aware of a scholarship contest they’re holding specifically for law students. 

This year, the “My Inspiration” contest is calling for current and entering law students to create and submit a brief video describing what inspired them to pursue a legal career. 

An Access Group panel of judges will choose the 10 finalists, and voting will begin August 3, 2009. Students, colleagues and the entire country will vote to decide the winner of a $10,000 scholarship. Up to five additional honorable mention scholarships of $1,500 each will also be awarded.

Equal Justice Works is sponsoring a student debt relief webinar series.  The first installment, Getting Your Student Loans Forgiven: How Government and Nonprofit Employees Can Earn Public Service Loan Forgiveness, occurs this Wednesday, May 20th, at 12:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., and again on Tuesday, May 26th at 7:15 p.m.  This interactive webinar will address how to qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness, how the new Income-Based Repayment Plan works, and how to calculate how much one can benefit.  Space is limited.  Participants must register at www.equaljusticeworks.org.

Laptop Program announcement for the July 2009 Ohio bar exam

The Ohio Board of Bar Examiners is permitting the use of laptop computers to answer the written (essay and MPT) portions of the July 2009 Ohio bar examination. The laptop program will be open to any applicant for the July 2009 bar exam who wishes to participate; however, it is optional.

Registration for the laptop program will open at 10:00 A.M. (EST) on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, and close at 4:00 P.M. (EST) on Wednesday, June 24, 2009.

On June 3, 2009, each person who has applied to sit for the July 2009 bar exam will receive an email from ExamSoft. The email will provide the applicant with a unique password which will enable the applicant to begin the registration process. Until then, information about the program may be found at the Bar Examination page of the Supreme Court of Ohio website and the Ohio ExamSoft website.
