Professor Daniel Steinbock was interviewed for the CBC radio news program, The World At Six, on Dec. 15, 2006, on the topic of terrorist watch lists. The radio spot focused on the story of Canadian citizen Maher Arar. Mr. Arar was exonerated of suspicion of participating in terrorist activities by a Canadian judicial commission, but his name remained on the United States’ terrorist watch lists. Professor Steinbock spoke to the CBC about the lack of a process available for people to have their names removed from terrorist watch lists, even when found innocent by their native countries’ judicial systems. Steinbock recently wrote a law review article exploring the differences and similarities between blacklists of the McCarthy era and today’s terrorist watch lists, Designating the Dangerous: From Blacklists to Watch Lists, 30 Seattle Univ. L. R. 65 (Fall 2006).
