Application Process

Preparation For Law School

Applicants must have received or have completed all the requirements for a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university before the first day of law classes. The College does not require any particular pre-law curriculum. We recommend that students take courses involving analysis, writing, and quantitative skills.

Admissions Policy

Admission decisions are the responsibility of the Admissions Committee. The Committee begins to review applications in December for admission to the next fall's entering class. Applications are reviewed and decisions are made on a continuing basis. Therefore, applications should be completed and submitted as early as possible. Applicants are notified of the decision by mail.

The Admissions Committee considers undergraduate grades and transcript, LSAT scores, recommendations, significant employment, post-graduate educational experience, extracurricular activities, special skills and talents, community service and involvement, and a personal statement if the applicant chooses to submit one. In an effort to enhance diversity in the student body, the Admissions Committee also considers other factors.

The University of Toledo is committed to a policy of equal opportunity in e ducation, employment, membership and contracts, and no differentiatio n will be made based on race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, sexual orientation, veteran status or the presence of a disability except as mandated by pertinent legal requirements.

  • Answer fully and accurately all questions on the application

  • We recommend that the application be submitted electronically through the Law School Admission Council. However, a copy of the application can be downloaded, completed and submitted directly to the College of Law. If you would prefer that we mail you a copy, please call 419-530-4131.
  • Include a personal statement (optional).

  • Have recommendation letters submitted to the College of Law.
We request that you submit two letters of recommendation. We prefer that these letters be submitted through the LSAC's letter of recommendation service.  Letters may also be submitted directly to the College of Law.  For recent college graduates, we prefer letters from college professors who can attest to their ability to succeed in a competitive professional program. Those who are not recent graduates may also want to submit recommendations from persons familiar with their employment records and achievements.  Your file will be considered complete when we have received two letters, although you may submit additional letters if you wish.

  • Applicants for financial aid should submit the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the University Financial Aid Office as soon as possible after January 1.

  • Check with the Admissions Office of the College of Law to be sure the application file is complete. Contact us if you have any questions or need assistance.

The College of Law has a rolling admissions process with no final date for applications. However, applicants for the full-time day division whose files are not complete by mid-March and candidates for the part-time evening division whose files are not complete by mid-May may find that most available places are taken.

Application Priority Date: March 15 for full-time students; May 15 for part-time students.
