These scholarships and awards are for students in the College of Law. The following scholarships are awarded by the College of Law Scholarship Committee. All awards are by invitation only. Some awards will vary in amount and duration. Note: Information provided on each scholarship is subject to change.
Clarence J. Applegate Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1984 by Celia M. Applegate in memory of her husband Clarence (Law '20), a Toledo attorney. Priority is given to law students with financial need who are enrolled in the part-time division.
Vincent L. Barker, Jr. Scholarship Fund
Scholarship for second, third, or fourth year law students at The University of Toledo. Student must have declared interest in intellectual property law.
BLSA/Torrence R. Green
Outstanding minority law students demonstrating financial need benefit from income from this fund.
Eddie M. Cole Minority Scholarship
Established in 1994 by the College of Law to honor Eddie M. Cole (Law '51), a Toledo attorney. Outstanding College of Law minority students are assisted by this scholarship.
Colton Scholarship
Income from this scholarship provides assistance to law students based on academic achievement.
Cooper, Walinski & Cramer Public Interest Fellowship
Established in 1997 by the firm to provide a stipend for first-year and second-year law students, as well as new graduates, to gain valuable work experience in the public service or non-profit sector.
Dean's Scholarship
These scholarships provide tuition to law students with financial need and who have demonstrated outstanding academic merit.
deArce-Koch Scholarship
Income from this fund is awarded to law students with financial need who demonstrate superior academic records.
Dymarkowski Endowment Fund
Recipients must be full-time second or third year law students. They shall be chosen based upon financial need and must have a GPA of at least 2.4 up to 3.2. Preference given to students pursuing an interest in labor/employment law.
Bruce Comly Fellowship Fund
When endowed, income from this fund will be awarded to students pursuing jobs or work in the field of public interest.
Geleerd Scholarship
Income from this scholarship provides assistance to law students based on academic achievement.
Leslie Henry Law Scholarship Fund
Established in 1989 by the late Flora-Belle Henry in memory of her husband Leslie, a Toledo attorney. Income from this fund provides scholarships to law students based on academic merit and financial need.
Josephine & Donato Iorio Scholarship
Will be awarded to students based on need.
Dennis Jackson Scholarship
Established in 1997 to assist full-time students who are from eastern Ohio.
George T. Keilholtz Scholarship
Scholarships for undergraduate, graduate, and law students with disabilities enrolled for 6 credit hours or more with an earned grade point average of 2.3 or better. Duration: 1 year. Amount: varies. Number of Awards: 1 or 2. Contact: Director, Office of Accessibility ED 12011 (419) 530-4981.
KeyBank/Willis Trust Scholarship Fund
Established in 1994 by KeyBank through a trust created in 1946 by the late Philip Willis, owner of Willis Greenhouse, to support the educational needs of Toledo area high school graduates. Income from this fund provides scholarships to law students who meet academic standards and demonstrate financial need.
Richard G. LaValley Sr. Fund
Income from this fund is awarded at the discretion of the College of Law Scholarship Committee.
Law Alumni Scholarship
Established in 1961 by various donors through the Law Alumni Association. The fund provides scholarships, loans, and grants to law students.
Law Equal Opportunity Scholarship
Scholarship for minority students in the College of Law.
Burton A. Maddock Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 1983 by the estate of Burton A. Maddock, a longtime friend of the University and the College of Law. Recipients must demonstrate high academic achievement.
William J. McDaniels Law Scholarship
Established in 1983 by the estate of Kathryn S. McDaniels in memory of her husband, William. Income from this fund provides scholarships to law students who demonstrate financial need.
Robert J. W. Meffley Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1981 by the late Louise Meffley (A/S '23) in memory of her husband Robert (A/S '23, MA '24), a Toledo attorney. Income from this fund provides scholarships to law students based on academic achievement.
C. W. Peckinpaugh, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1979 by Mrs. Charles Peckinpaugh, Jr., in memory of her husband, a Toledo area attorney. This fund provides scholarships to law students from Lucas or Wood Counties. Recipients must demonstrate high academic achievement and significant financial need.
Anthony G. Pizza Scholarship Fund
Friends of Tony Pizza have set up this scholarship fund in honor of his retirement. Recipients shall be first-year students with demonstrated promise based on undergraduate performance.
Judge Francis C. and Jane Restivo Scholarship Fund
Recipients of the income from this fund will be awarded to part-time, first-year law students who are Ohio residents.
Rightmyer-McLean Law Scholarship
Established in 1988 by attorneys Kevin McLean and Lee Rightmyer (Law '82). Income from this fund provides assistance to first year law students based on scholastic achievement, with financial need also a consideration.
John W. Stoepler Scholarship Fund
Established in 1990 by various donors in honor of John W. Stoepler (Law '61), dean of the College of Law from 1983 to 1990 and former Interim President and Vice President of University Relations. Income from this fund provides financial assistance to students based on financial need or academic merit.
William N. Thomas Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1988 by Ruth R. Thomas in memory of her husband William (Ed '36, Law '51), a longtime practicing attorney in the Toledo area and past president of the Toledo Board of Education. Income from the fund is awarded to entering law students who are African-American, have a superior academic record and demonstrate need.
Topper Scholarship
Income from this scholarship assists College of Law students based on academic achievement.
Chris Tucker Memorial Scholarship
Established in 1994 by students of the Class of '94 in memory of their classmate, Chris Tucker. When endowed, assistance will be awarded to full-time students with demonstrated financial need and merit. May be renewable.
Honorable Nicholas Walinski
Established in 1993 by the College of Law in memory of the Honorable Nicholas J. Walinski (Law '52) who, at the time of his death, was a senior judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. Assistance is provided to law students based on academic achievement.
Honorable Thaddeus N. Walinski Scholarship
Income from this fund is awarded to the Editor-in-Chief of the Law Review.
S. S. Wall Scholarship
Income from this scholarship is awarded to law students based on academic achievement.
Williams, Jilek, Laferty, Gallagher & Scott Scholarship
Established in 1997 to assist second and/or third year part-time law students who have a 2.0 - 2.999 G.P.A. and interest in plaintiff civil trial practice.
Honorable Frank Witt Wiley Scholarship Fund
Established in 1980 by the estate of George Stundon, a retired employee of the Sun Oil Co., in memory of Judge Frank Witt Wiley. Income from this fund provides scholarships to law students from certain Ohio counties, based on financial need, law and community service and scholastic achievement.
C.V. Wolfe Law Scholarship
Established in 1993 by the family in memory of Cletus V. Wolfe, a former UT professor. Recipients, one of whom must be a minority race, must have financial need, meet academic standards, and be a graduate of an Ohio high school.
